2017 Tucker's Ride

There was no ride scheduled for the Memorial Day weekend, so Lee and Beth Tucker agreed to host a Saturday wagon ride starting from their farm a few miles north of Cynthiana, Kentucky. Lee made a few phone calls and we wound up with 5 wagons ready to ride when departure time arrived. Lee had laid out a ride of 27 miles around Harrison county. The weather when we left was fine, but there were warnings of potential thunderstorms later in the day. A couple of the teamsters broke off after lunch in order to return to the farm because it was early in the season and their teams weren't yet in mid-season shape. Later, Lee's mule Max stepped into a hole after a rest break and Lee decided not to chance injuring him so he also dropped out and sent for a trailer. The only other excitment came when we had to cross a couple of the new style open steel grate bridges that are now popping up throughout the state replacing older bridges. It led to one of the more interesting photos in the group of photos that I took while we were on this ride.

When the the remaining two wagons finally got back to the farm late in the afternoon, Lee and Beth prepared a delicious meal of maccaroni salad, deviled eggs, potato salad and cheeseburgers along with all the fixin's. Just as we finished eating, the predicted storms began to arrive, but they were too late to spoil what had turned out to be a wonderful day, especially for an improptu event. Thanks to Lee and Beth for all of their hospitality!
